Tyson removes jobs at Emporia beef factory
Tyson Foods Inc. is decreasing its employment at the beef processing and cold storage plant at Emporia, Kans. Facility, by removing 60-80 jobs to attain a new employment of about 900, according to spokesman, Gary Mickelson.
Improved efficiencies at other Tyson facilities will mean that some of the products made at Emporia could be made at other plants, reducing the need for employees in Emporia.
"Some positions are being eliminated while some other open jobs are being filled," Michaelson said. "While eliminating jobs is always difficult, in this case we believe it will benefit remaining Emporia team members and hopefully give them more work hours each week."
He also noted that some employees whose jobs are being eliminated may qualify for jobs in other areas of the plant.
"Despite the reduction in staffing, our Emporia plant remains a very viable operation. We intend to continue to produce specialty products at Emporia and are hopeful these product lines will flourish and enable us to add jobs in the future," he added.
