France's compound feed output down 12.8 percent in February
France produced 1.6 million tonnes of compound feed in February, down 12.8 percent on-year, according to industry figures released Friday (Apr 17).
In February, production of cattle feed declined 16.8 percent, pig feed down 13.4 percent and poultry feed down 9.2 percent. Feed for turkey fell 11.2 percent and waterfowl feeds fell 15.5 percent.
But the production of organic feed in 2007-08 is estimated at 128,000 tonnes, which showed a steady growth for the third consecutive season, according to industry organizations Snia and Coop de France.
During the year, pig feed rose 6.6 percent while poultry feed increased 5.2 percent.
The market for organic livestock feed is heavily dominated by feed for laying hens, which represent 46 percent of all feed produced. All bird species represent 77 percent of total production.
A further increase of 3.6 percent is expected in 2008-09.
The three main raw materials used are corn (33 percent), wheat (13 percent) and soy (10 percent).
