Selangor minister dismisses notion for pork export
Selangor is not interested in the export market and the new pig farm would only provide for domestic demand, according to Selangor chief minister Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
The facility aims to ensure environmental-friendly farming methods while allowing the business of local pig farmers to thrive.
Khalid said the RM 340 million (US$109 million) modern pig farm would have a buffer zone of 800 metres wide from the nearest village, and the farm would provide pork for the non-Muslim community in Selangor.
The farm is created for better farming methods rather than for profit, said Khalid.
In addition, Sarawak is planning to build a sprawling 4.36 million square feet large facility, which would export pork to Singapore should the city-state remove its nearly 10-year ban on Malaysian pork.
