Cargill charged for environmental violation
Cargill Inc. has been ordered to pay US$100,000 for environmental violations at its biodiesel plant in Iowa Falls, Iowa.
The lawsuit was filed by Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller.
Miller said the series of environmental violations include those relating to water pollution, wastewater pretreatment and solid waste.
The mid-summer 2006 violation involved sludge being improperly disposed of by Cargill in a local field, which resulted in the death of nearly 600 fish in an area river, the complainant raised.
