India's cotton arrivals drop 6.18% on year

In the current season that began in October, India's cotton arrivals were down 6.18% on year, the Cotton Corp of India said.

Arrivals as on April 15 stood at 27.93 million bales of 170 kilogrammes each, as against 29.77 million bales a year earlier, the state-run procurement agency said.

Farmers in the western states of Maharashtra and Gujarat, the top producers in the country, are hoping the government will step in to support the prices that have almost halved since last March while costs of seeds, fertilisers and fuel rose.
