Vietnam's January-March octopus, squid exports to Canada earn US$444 million

Since early of this year to mid-March, Vietnam earned US$444 million revenues from exports of squid and octopus to Canada, said the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers.

The figure surged 662% on year, the association said, adding that the growth is very impressive.

Vietnam mainly exports fresh octopus and squid to Canada. In 2011, the country earned only US$913,000 from exporting of these products to the market.

However, Vietnamese seafood exporters face tough competition with counterparts from China, Thailand, Taiwan, India and Peru in the Canadian market, the VASEP warned.
