India's wheat procurement tops 13 million tonnes

Wheat procurement by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and state agencies for the ongoing 2010-11 rabi marketing season (April-June) has so far reached 13.09 million tonnes.

This is 10.8% more than the 11.81 million tonnes (mt) purchased during the corresponding period of the previous season.

If the current trends continue, total procurement for the current season may well exceed the record 25.38 million tonnes achieved in 2009-10, which included 10.76 million tonnes from Punjab, 6.92 million tonnes from Haryana, 3.88 million tonnes from Uttar Pradesh, 1.97 million tonnes from Madhya Pradesh, 1.15 million tonnes from Rajasthan and 0.48 million tonnes from Bihar.
