Pork prices in Philippines' Western Visayan provinces increase
Due to low supply of pork, the Philippines' Western Visayan provinces experienced high pork prices.
High feed prices have turned many local backyard pig farmers, who accounted for 80-89%, away from production, the newspapers reported.
Western Visayas is the third biggest source of pigs in the country, a 179% sufficient level supply for its six provinces.
To reverse the trend, the Department of Agriculture in Region six has set up programmes aimed at persuading former farmers to begin again, Johnny Loces, chief of the livestock sector of the Department of Agriculture in Region six, told the newspaper.
