Russian cattle numbers up, pigs and poultry down
The numbers of cattle in Russia on April 1 totalled 9.7 million, 2.8% less than on the same date last year, the federal statistics service reported Monday (Apr 18).
However, there is an average monthly increase in the number of cattle in February-March was 1.3%, which is above the 1.2% monthly average over the last five years.
The number of cows on the date was 3.7 million, 1% less than a year ago.
The number of pigs on the date was 11.1 million, 3.3% more than on April 1 2010. The average monthly increase in the number of pigs in February-March was 1.5%, above the 1.1% monthly average over the last five years.
The number of poultry in the country on April 1 was 352.4 million, 3.7% more than a year ago. The average monthly increase in the number of poultry in February-March was 0.8%, lower than the 1.2% monthly average over the last five years.
