EU commissioner says Russia should lift Polish meat ban
European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said on Wednesday (April 18) in Brussels that EU had given Russia adequate information concerning Poland's sanitary standards for Moscow to lift its meat import ban.
Barroso said "clarifications provided by the European Commission experts are clear and Russian authorities should consider lifting its ban on meat and other exports from Poland to Russia."
Earlier, a European Commission official said the letter had been sent to Moscow ahead of a meeting on Saturday between the Russian agriculture minister Alexei Gordeyev and EU health commissioner Markos Kyprianou to discuss on the issue.
