Digital Angel's livestock tag approved for use in Chile

Digital Angel Corp's announced Tuesday (Apr 18) its visual and electronic radio frequency identification (RFID) livestock tags have been officially approved for sale in Chile's cattle-registration system.

The tags, manufactured by the company's subsidiary in Denmark, are used to identify and track livestock. The Chilean Agricultural and Cattle Service has registered the tags as official identification devices, making it mandatory in the Chilean cattle-registration system.

Chile is an important part of the company's overall strategy of expanding in Latin America, Digital Angel President and CEO Kevin McGrath said in a statement.

The company also intends to launch a strong push with both visual and electronic RFID tags to gain market share in the region, he added.

Digital Angel has sold more than 35,000 electronic livestock tags in Chile since launching its business there in mid-2005. During that time, the company has also sold or received firm orders for approximately 2.4 million tags in Argentina and 44,000 tags in Uruguay.
