US pork exports to reach record high
US pork industry observers believe the odds are high for pork exports for the entire 2005 to exceed 2004 levels. The 2005 exports are also expected to reach a 14-year high.
Exports for the first two months of 2005 were 20.5 percent higher than in 2004. Exports were up 14.9 percent to Japan, the US's largest market, up 162.1 percent to China, up 27.2 percent to Canada, up 6.9 percent to Mexico, up 78.8 percent to Russia, up 263.1 percent to South Korea, down 52.3 percent to Hong Kong, and down 61.3 percent to Taiwan.
