Mexico's feed output to reach 29.4 million tonnes

 

 

Mexico's feed production this year could reach 29.4 million tonnes, and the number of feedmills in the country is estimated to reach 420, according to the Mexican Feed Manufacturers Association (Conafab).

 

The Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA), Francisco Mayorga, said that biotechnology plays a central role in supporting the industry and highlighted the need to working on decoding the genome of key crops.

 

Mexico in 2010 ranked fourth place Americas' key feed production regions with a record 28.1 million tonnes, and production in the Americas as a whole accounts for 44% of the world's total feed output, said Juan Antonio Pedroza, president of Conafab.
