China's Shuanghui Group gets export certification to Japan

Henan Shuanghui Group's factory for heated processed meat products has obtained export certification, according to Henan's Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.

Henan's Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau has inspected Henan Shuanghui Investment Co. Ltd 's plant and was satisfied that the factory met sanitation requirements for export.

The RMB 120 million (US$15.5 million) plant started production in August last year. Covering a built-up area of 17,000 square feet, it processes mainly sausages and products from poultry and other meats. The plant was built specifically to meet the strict export requirements of Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. It has annual processing capacity of 35,000 tonnes and is Shuanghui's largest processing plant for cooked meat products.

Revenues of Henan Shuanghui Group, one of the top three meat processors in China in terms of sales, rose 15 percent in 2006 to reach RMB 23 billion (US$2.9 billion).

To allay concerns over food safety issues abroad, Chinese meat exporting enterprises have set up dedicated supply chains with stricter requirements geared towards export.
