China issues 3 million tonnes of corn export quota
China has issued a corn export quota totalling 3 million tonnes to expire by the end of February 2008, said a person familiar with the situation Wednesday.
Of the total, 1.2 million tonnes must be filled by the end of June or July this year, or the quota will expire. Of this, Cofco Ltd. received 400,000 tonnes, and Jilin Grain Group Co. 300,000 tonnes, the person said.
The person said the remainder of the quota will go to provinces in north and north-east China, but did not specify which companies.
China National Cereals, Oils & Foodstuffs Corp. was renamed Cofco Ltd. April 10.
China's corn exports in January-February rose 25 percent on-year to 1.77 million tonnes.
