Brazil's chicken exports up 16.5 percent in March
Brazilian chicken exports rose 16.5 percent to 307,000 tonnes in March from February, according to Brazil's Chicken Exporters Association (Abef) Thursday (Apr 16).
Chicken exports are showing signs of recovery after the earlier impact of the financial crisis, said Abef.
However, exports have dropped two percent compared with March 2008, the association said.
Revenue rose 13 percent to US$422 million in March from February, but fell 24 percent on-year, Abef said.
Brazil exported 845,000 tonnes of chicken in the first quarter of the year, down four percent on-year.
The Middle East was the largest importer, buying 290,000 tonnes in the first quarter but the volume was down 26 percent on-year.
