South African 2008-09 corn yield rises to 11.5 million tonnes
                                     


South Africa delivered 28,000 tonnes of corn to silos last week, unchanged from the previous week, the South African Grain Information Service showed in its weekly harvest report Thursday (April 16).


A total of 11.518 million tonnes have been harvested and delivered since the beginning of the season. The crop consists of 7.064 million tonnes of white corn and 4.454 million tonnes of yellow corn.


Harvesting usually starts from about April and runs to early August, with the key harvest months being June and July.


South Africa was forecast to produce 11.191 million tonnes of corn this season, as reported by the Crop Estimates Committee.
