Norway seafood industry to boost exports to China

The Norwegian seafood industry and authorities are working to boost seafood exports to China, which reached a value of NOK1.10 billion (US$164.5 million) in 2008.

Salmon exports alone to China and Hong Kong rose 21 percent in 2008 reaching NOK540 million (US$80.7 million).

According to Ashild Nakken of the Norwegian Seafood Export Council, salmon is particularly popular in China because of its high fat content.

The recession however, has made boosting seafood exports to China increasingly difficult according to Nakken.
