Groups hit out at Selangor government for approving pig farm

Various groups have hit out at the new Selangor state government after it approves the construction of a RM 100 million (US$32 million) modern pig farm.

Many Selangor residents had protested against the pig farm just last week, but tempers have now flared at the state government's approval.

Newspaper Utusan Malaysia has criticised the decision while other newspapers have also expressed religious and environmental concerns about the project.

However, the Selangor government said that the living conditions and comfort of residents living near the proposed pig farm would not be threatened, citing that the nearest village is located 0.8kn away.

In an effort to appease the protesting parties, the government said the proposed farm would be fully covered and air-conditioned so there would be no foul smell, and that there would insect and viral diseases control.
