Pigs in Wisconsin state infected with herpes virus
Pigs at a farm in north-central Wisconsin have been positive for a form of herpes virus, according to Jane Larson of the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
Larson says the blood samples results should be available this week.
The disease was detected by officials during routine screening of a pig being sent for slaughter. She says the affected farm was already quarantined and additional pigs are being tested.
Larson says the virus is common among pigs and can cause reproductive problems but the disease can also affect cattle, horses and other animals.
