Argentina 2006/2007 wheat exports reach 8.805 million tonnes

 

 

Argentine 2006/07 wheat export sales were unchanged at 8.805 million tonnes by April 13, the Agriculture Secretariat said in its latest weekly report.

 

Argentina, which is among the top five wheat exporters in the world, had sold 5.83 million tonnes of the grain in the same period in 2006.

 

The Argentine government suspended new wheat exports on March 8 in an effort to ensure domestic supplies.

 

The US Department of Agriculture forecast Argentine exports of 2006/07 wheat at 9.5 million tonnes.

 

Farmers have completed harvesting the 2006/07 wheat crop and the government has estimated output would reach about 14 million tonnes, up from the 12.6 million tonnes harvested in 2005/06.

 

The estimated sales are based on information collected from industry sources. The Secretariat provided the following list of estimated sales commitments to date, in tonnes:
