Ukraine's grain supplies show decrease

Grain supplies in Ukraine on April 1 totalled 10.2 million tonnes, down 26% on-year, according to the state statistics committee.

Wheat supplies to that date totalled 4.8 million tonnes, barley 2.3 million tonnes, corn 1.8 million tonnes, and rye 600,000 tonnes.

Grain supplies held by farmers totalled five million tonnes, 23% less than a year ago, including 1.9 million tonnes of wheat, 1.3 million tonnes of barley, one million tonnes of corn and 200,000 tonnes of rye. The rest of the grain was held by storage and processing enterprises.

In 2009, Ukraine harvested 46 million tonnes of grain in clean weight, 14% less than in 2008.
