Russia stopped a 19-tonne poultry shipment from Slovakia in Kaliningrad region after discovering the meat had expired.

While inspecting the refrigerator truck with 19.2 tonnes of frozen chicken meat, Russian inspectors found double identification tags on all packages of the shipment.

Apart from that, it was also established that the shelf life of 30 percent of the meat products had expired early in April 2009, according to the Federal Agency for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision, Rosselkhoznadzor.

In accordance with international rules, the shipment had been returned to the exporter, Rosselkhoznadzor said.
