China's livestock import value soar by 52 percent

 

 

China's livestock product import value surged by 51.5 percent to US$1.13 billion, with the trade deficit increasing by 2.8 times to US$480 million, the Ministry of Agriculture reported.

 

The export value jumped by 12 percent on-year to US$640 million in the first two months of 2008.

 

Furthermore, the live pig exports of China dropped by 2.2 percent to US$140 million in the period, while the import value rose by 4.1 times to US$150 million.

 

The poultry exports rose by 7.1 percent on-year to US$150 million and the imports surged by 33 percent to US$140 million.
