India plans meat and poultry board

India plans to establish a national board to help develop and promote processed meats domestically and abroad.

India is proposing to create a new National Meat and Poultry Board by June 2007, which would be responsible for developing and promoting the sector. The Indian government will pattern the organisation after the success of its National Dairy Development Board.

According to Press Trust Institute, the National Meat and Poultry Board "would act as an apex body for development and promotion of processed meat products for positioning quality products in Indian and global markets."
