Four million birds in Mexican farms culled due to bird flu
About four million birds were culled at Mexican poultry farms in the states of Jalisco and Guanajuato following an outbreak of avian influenza in February 2013, said the country's Agriculture Secretary, Enrique Martinez.
The outbreak was detected and controlled with an implementation of a vaccination programme, the agriculture secretary said.
Officials declared a health emergency on February after the Bachoco poultry company reported an outbreak of bird flu at its farms in the central state of Guanajuato.
