China's beef imports from Australia reach 28,600 tonnes
In the first quarter of 2013, China imported 28,623 tonnes of beef from Australia, overtaking South Korea to be the third-biggest beef exporter of Australia after Japan and the US.
According to China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC), the country's import of Australian beef made up 12.8% of Australia's beef export in the first three months of the year and is now the fifth-biggest beef export market for Australia with a market share of 3.4%, following Japan, the US, South Korea and Taiwan.
The country is likely to see its import of beef from Australia this year double from the 35,000 tonnes predicted earlier by the Meat & Livestock Australia earlier.
