HP Hood to sell Kemps

According to the media, HP Hood intends to sell Kemps, a St. Paul-based dairy products producer, to the country's biggest dairy enterprise.

Kemps spokeswoman, Rachel Kyllo, said the Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) will become the 100% equity owner of Kemps, LLC, but would not share further details except to say the companies will begin the transfer process soon. The agreement is subject to regulatory approval.

Kemps employs 1,194, with over 75% located in Minnesota. The company makes milk, ice cream and yogurt products under strong brands including Kemps, Hood, Hagan, Green's and Arrowhead. Kemps was purchased by HP Hood, LLC, based in Lynnfield, Mass., in 2004.

According to the DFA, "From time to time, DFA's board of directors and management will explore business relationships or acquisitions with organisations or brands that align. It is our policy not to disclose the details of these activities until a thorough due diligence process is complete, all regulatory requirements are met, and all involved parties have formalised a commitment to the project."
