Norwegian seafood exports set record again
Norwegian seafood exports have set yet another record in March, reaching NOK4.7 billion, up NOK1 billion from the same month last year, according to the Norwegian Seafood Export Council.
As for the first quarter of 2010, Norwegian seafood exports totalled NOK12.4 billion, up NOK1.9 billion from the same period last year.
According to the council's director of market information Egil Ove Sundheim, as a result of continuing very strong market demand for Norwegian seafood, the growth in exports seen last year has continued into the first quarter of this year.
Norwegian salmon exports also set a record last month, topping NOK6.5 billion, up NOK1.7 billion from March 2009, while the average price of fresh whole salmon jumped to NOK36.43 per kilogramme, up from NOK30.36 in March 2009.
Meanwhile, exports of fresh Norwegian cod fillets set a first-quarter record, reaching NOK 167 million, up NOK30 million from the first quarter of 2009.
