Nicaragua and Russia sign shrimp, fish exports agreement

Nicaragua and Russia have signed an agreement of understanding that grants Nicaraguan shrimp and fish exports greater access to the Russian market.

According to official reports, the agreement was signed in Managua by the head of the Nicaraguan Agricultural and Forest Ministry, Ariel Bucardo, and the head of the Russian mission visiting the country, Yevgeny Dubrovin.

Bucardo said that exporters interested in doing business with Russia need only present a certification from the General Directorate of Agricultural Health and the Agricultural and Forest Ministry.

Meanwhile, Dubrovin confirmed Nicaraguan exporters have fulfilled the required standards needed to place their shrimp and fish shipments.

According to figures shown from the Centre of Exports Processing (CETREX), Nicaraguan exports to Russia totalled US$6.21 million in 2008, whereas a year before US$9.06 million had been generated from the relationship.
