Malaysia launches Pahang aquaculture project
Malaysia has chosen Kuala Pahang as the first site out of four aquaculture projects that will rear freshwater fish.
The projects will cost RM 10 million (US$3.1 million) each, and should all be operational by June, according to deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Malaysia is looking to export these freshwater fish due to a high overseas market demand, he said.
The Pahang project was preceded by a successful test bed project in Sepang that started a year ago using Australian technology.
Authorities are currently looking out for other suitable locations in Johor, Kedah and Kelantan for similar ventures, according to a report by news service Star On-Line.
