JBS beef exports down, revenue up in Q1
JBS S.A. reported that its beef exports in Q1 2008 reached 536.6 thousand tonnes, 20.6 percent less from the same period last year.
Exports, however, were up 8.6 percent in value to US$1.17 billion from US$1.07 billion in Q1 2007.
The increase in value was driven by higher prices in the first quarter of 2008, according to the Brazilian Meat Export Industries Association.
During the first quarter of this year, a tonne of fresh beef was priced US$3,527.88, up 45.4 from the same period of 2007.
Processed beef price went up 9.56 percent to US$3,714.69, while the offal average price was up 36.1 percent to US$2,327.09 a tonne.
