Japan Buys 141,000 MT Wheat, 20,000 MT Barley
The Staple Food Department at Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has contracted to buy 141,000 metric tons of wheat and 20,000 tons of barley for June shipment in a tender, a department official said Thursday.
Of the wheat it bought, 60,000 tons were of U.S. origin, with 8,000 tons being western white wheat, 20,000 tons dark northern spring wheat and 32,000 tons hard red winter wheat.
The department bought 40,000 tons of Canadian wheat, with 26,000 tons Canadian western red spring wheat and 14,000 tons Canadian durum wheat. It also bought 41,000 tons of Australian wheat, with 20,000 tons Australian standard wheat and 21,000 tons prime hard wheat.
The department bought 20,000 tons of Australian feed barley.
