Azerbaijan drastically cuts Kazakh grain imports
Azerbaijan has considerably slashed the import of Kazakhstan's grain this year, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan Serik Primbetov said on Thursday (Apr 12).
"Azerbaijan bought about 1.3 million tonnes of grain from Kazakhstan last year, but only about half a million tonnes this year" Primbetov said.
The ambassador explained this was due to the development of agriculture in Azerbaijan and increase of its own grain production.
Kazakhstan is among the world's largest grain exporters. In 2011 the republic had a record harvest of nearly 27 million tonnes of grain in net weight. Export potential was estimated at 15 million tonnes.
