JBS forms food safety team in US
The Beef Division of JBS USA Holdings, Inc, part of the Brazilian group JBS S.A., has formed the JBS Food Safety and Quality Advisory Team.
The team will consist of JBS personnel and a select group of academicians well-versed in the food safety challenges confronting the beef industry. They will collaboratively provide technical advice and recommendations to improve food safety efforts at the company.
It will consist of JBS USA personnel and six industry experts including Drs Gary Smith and Keith Belk from Colorado State University; Drs. H. Russell Cross, Kerri Harris, and Jeff Savell from Texas A&M University; and Dr. Guy Loneragan from West Texas A&M University. Dr. John Ruby will lead and coordinate the Team’s efforts.
In July 2007, JBS S.A. acquired Swift Foods Company, which included four beef processing facilities and three pork processing facilities.
JBS USA expanded its beef operations through the acquisition of Smithfield Beef Group, Inc., which included four beef processing facilities, and Five Rivers Cattle Feeding, LLC in October 2008.
