Bulgaria may decrease grain output
This year, Bulgaria's harvest of major grains may significantly lessen, according to information of the European market operators.
The main reason for declining of estimations is the unprecedented drought, which the Balkan country faced in the autumn of 2011, and very cold last winter. As a result of the extreme weather events, the sowing areas of grains in Bulgaria were irreparably damaged, which resulted in a downward corrections of the future production volumes.
We should note that in the previous season, the general production of wheat in Bulgaria totalled 4.3 million tonnes, while the barley harvest totalled nearly 0.67 million tonnes. Thus, most of the reporting products were exported to Spain. However, experts urge not to draw hasty conclusions about the future grain production volumes in the country.
Significant improvements in the weather conditions that may have a very positive impact on the development and early maturing of wheat and barley sowings in Bulgaria in the period became the grounds for such expectations. At the same time, in May 2012 it will be possible to make more accurate conclusions about the damage, caused by the adverse weather conditions, and announce the forecast of the future harvest of grains in the country.
