Lithuania's pig prices hit highest in Baltic countries, Poland
Lithuania's average purchase price for pigs rose by 6.6% on-year to LTL516.3 (US$217.16) per 100 kilos in January to March 2011 and remained the highest in the Baltic countries and Poland, said the Agricultural Information and Rural Business Center.
The average purchase price for pigs in Lithuania was 13% higher than in Poland (LTL456.9 [US$192.01] per 100 kilos), 4.3% higher than in Latvia (LTL495.1 [US$208.06]) and 0.4% higher than in Estonia (LTL514.18 [US$216.08]) in January-March.
High purchase prices for pigs in Lithuania were favourable for pork imports, the centre said.
