UK milk production lags behind last year
UK milk production continues to slip further behind last year, according to provisional figures from the Rural Payments Agency.
In March, wholesale milk deliveries totalled 1,114.4 million litres, around 137 million litres up on February, but 8 million litres below the same time in the 2008/09 milk year, representing a 0.7% drop on-year.
Cumulative production for the 2009/10 season now stands at 12,819.4 million litres, a fall of 0.3% compared with 2008/09 levels.
UK milk deliveries have fallen for the past six years and the 2009/10 figures saw a new low, according to DairyCo.
