China reports FMD outbreak in Gansu
China's agricultural ministry has reported an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) among pigs and sheep in north-western China's Gansu province.
A total of 831 pigs and 389 sheep were culled after the disease was detected in Linxia county on April 7, according to the ministry.
Gansu reported another outbreak last month. There have also been two other recent outbreaks, in Guangzhou and Shenzhen, both in Guangdong province.
Frequent outbreaks of diseases have prompted farmers to slaughter a larger number of pigs so far this year and the diseases have been blamed for weak demand for animal feed.
