Industry leaders convene to review ways to elevate poultry performance

Selenium status and the forthcoming ban of antibiotic growth promoters (AGP's) in the EU are just some of the issues that will be addressed at Alltech's Poultry Feeding Concepts Session as part of the 21st International Feed Industry Symposium to be held in Lexington, Kentucky, May 22-25, 2005.  Presentations during the event will feature concepts on creating new products, taking advantage of innovative technologies, and elevating production, performance and returns.

Renowned consultants and academics will look at issues such as:

    • Modern poultry nutrition for performance: minerals, metabolism and the environment

    • Multiple antibiotic resistance: what is the cure?

    • Reducing mycotoxin impact

    • Natural alternatives to AGP's in poultry diets: performance responses and economics

"Consumer demand for traceability and antibiotic-free food, coupled with the need to maximize feed efficiency and performance mean that poultry producers must be willing to break the boundaries of traditional feeding methods to remain competitive and cost effective. These are all tough challenges that the Poultry Feeding Concepts Session will be addressing," explains Lode Nollet, Alltech's Technical Manager for Poultry.

"For the past 20 years, the goal of the annual Alltech Symposium has been to bring the latest scientific technologies to the animal feed industry in a practical format.  This year's program is the best one yet," exclaims Dr. Pearse Lyons, President of Alltech.  "We are going to help create new markets with innovative ideas that will elevate the performance not only of our animals, but of our industry."

David Byrne, former EU Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection will give the keynote speech "Food safety, front and centre:  the consumer's ultimate concern.  Why traceability, both globally and nationally, must become one of any company's mandates." During his tenure as EU Commissioner, Byrne was instrumental in developing policies on food safety, public health, and consumer protection. He was also central in preparing Europe's response to such crises as BSE, Foot and Mouth, and SARS.
