Australasian Aquaculture Conference & Show

The fifth biennial event of the National Aquaculture Council of Australia and the World Aquaculture Society, Australasian Aquaculture Conference and Trade Show 2012 will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre during May 1 - 4.

Themed 'The Next Ten Years', Australasian Aquaculture 2012 presents an opportunity to stay abreast of current political, technological, environmental and sustainability issues. As developments in research continue to lead to improvements in the aquaculture industry, the event sets itself to be where new ideas, technologies, tools and products for progressive aquaculture converge.

From the selection of the first and only convention centre in the world with a '6 Star Green Star' environmental rating as its venue, to the introduction of the Australasian Aquaculture Corporate Responsibility Project, the organisers have made a conscious effort to align the event with the theme of sustainability.

The 2012 program features species-related sessions on hatchery and genetics; husbandry and environment; nutrition; health management; and post-harvest processing and supply chains. Sessions will also cover recirculation and aquaculture engineering; biosecurity; marketing and promotion; government regulations and policy; status, challenges and opportunities in SE Asia; indigenous and pacific aquaculture; stock enhancement; and a session dedicated to the 2012 theme.

Skretting Australia--the leading supplier of fish feed in Australasia and world leader in the production and supply of feed for farmed fish and shrimp--is the name sponsor and one of the exhibitors. Other exhibitors include Aquasonic--the largest aquaculture supply company in Australia; and Scielex--the specialist in electronic equipment used in harsh environments in the marine research, aquaculture, mining and tourism industries.

The inaugural AAA Awards will be held at the themed night - "Articulture" - on May 2. The award recognises and rewards Australasian Aquaculture excellence in aquaculture science research, aquaculture production, and aquaculture service.

Since its inception in 2004, Australasian Aquaculture has attracted researchers, farmers and managers from the aquaculture and related fields. In its previous edition in 2010, the trade show was attended by over 1,200 participants from 35 countries.
