Ukraine reports increase in spring planting area
As of April 1, 2010, Ukraine sowed spring agricultural crops on one million hectares, an on-year increase of 2.7%, according to the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine.
According to the data, agrarians sowed spring grains and leguminous plants throughout 834.6 thousand hectares (down 7% compared to the same date of the previous year), including 632.1 thousand hectares of barley sowings (down 13.6%).
According to the preliminary data of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, Ukraine will sow agricultural crops throughout 26.9 million hectares, including 15.6 million hectares of spring crops (7.3 million hectares of grains and leguminous plants, 6.3 million hectares of industrial crops, 2.8 million hectares of forage crops).
