Salmon supplies hit by cold weather

Salmon supplies are likely to become tighter over the next two weeks due to recent inclement weather, according to leading producer Young's seafood.

Companies have delayed harvests for farmed salmons due to colder water temperatures in Scotland and Scandinavia.

Higher demand for fish and a drop in supplies from Chile, has put further pressure on supplies.

Young's Seafood, which supplies around 40 percent of the UK's farmed salmon market, said although consumers may not face an imminent shortage, retailers could have difficulty getting more than their allocations.

Demand for fresh salmon in the UK is growing by around 26 percent a year.
