UK pork market perks up in February
Sales of fresh/frozen pork in the UK during the month of February increased by 3% in volume compared with the same period last year, AHDB Pork said, citing data fromKantar Worldpanel.
However, in terms of value, sales were down 5% as retail prices fell by 8% year-on-year.
The increase in volume sales of pork was, nevertheless, encouraging, as this has been a declining market for over a year, according to the pork division of the UK's Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board.
Taking a longer-term perspective, the amount of pork sold during the three-month period from December 2015 to February 2016 in the was still 2% lower than a year before.
Prices of all pork products, except belly, ribs and marinades, were cheaper in February than a year before, reflecting the deflationary price experienced in the pork market, AHDB Pork said.
