Fiji seeks imposition of 32% duty on imported pork products
In order to protect the local industry, the Fiji Pig Association is lobbying the government to impose a 32% duty on all imported pork products.
For months the Association has raised concerns about low-priced pork goods processed in Australia using subsidised pork product from Canada and Europe.
The new CEO of the livestock and crops council is backing the move, but a senior primary industries official says the industry needs to focus on production.
