Methionine prices soften as Chinese feedmills limit purchases

Prices of methionine moved lower during the week ending April 10.

Although one methionine producer lifted its price quotes lately, transacted prices remained soft as demand was weak despite seeing improvements. Feed millers were cautious as the outbreak of H7N9 bird flu in China resulted in mass culling on the one hand and hampered inventory building on the other hand.

Price quotes of imported dl-methionine were lower at RMB28.60-29.15/kg.

Methionine market will likely stay soft with buyers treading prudently amid dwindling animal inventories and a local producer scheduled to expand production.
