Russia exports almost two million tonnes of wheat
Russia exported 1.824 million tonnes of wheat and meslin in the first two months of 2012, worth US$465.8 million, informed the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation on April 6.
In January, export volumes of these crops totalled 989.6 thsd tonnes (at the sum of US$246.4 million). Thus, in February, the Russian Federation supplied 835 thsd tonnes of wheat and meslin on foreign markets.
In January-February 2011, the export trading was not realised because of the ban on grain exports.
During two months of 2012, imports of wheat and meslin totaled 8 thsd tonnes (at the sum of US$1.2 million). Last year the Russian Federation did not import wheat.
The Federal Customs Service also reported that imports of barley in the reporting period more than doubled - to 107.8 thsd tonnes, against 51.6 thsd tonnes last year. In the monetary terms, the imports increased to US$39.4 million from the level of US$16.9 million last year.
Supplies of corn to the Russian Federation reduced to the level of 12.8 thsd tonnes from 13.3 thsd tonnes in January-February of 2011. At the same time in the monetary terms, the imports increased in almost two times - to US$39.8 million from the level of US$21 million last year.
In January-February, Russia imported grains at the sum of US$102.3 million, up almost twice the index for the same period in 2011 (US$53.4 million).
