Ukraine's spring planting area shows decrease
As of April 1, 2011, Ukraine planted spring farming crops across an 872.1 thousand hectare area, which is an on-year decrease of 16.8%, announced the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine.
According to the data, agrarians planted spring grains and leguminous plants without corn across 717 thousand hectares, a reduction of 14.1% as compared to the same date of the previous year, as well as 530.4 thousand ha of barley sowings; a reduction of 16.1%.
According to the Committee data, farming enterprises planted sunflower across 5.6 thousand hectares; an increase by 2.8 times.
As of the reporting date, almost all oblasts had begun the planting works except for Donetsk, Luhansk and Kharkiv oblasts.
