HQ Sustainable Maritime attains record sales in 2007

HQ Sustainable Maritime Industries, Inc., an integrated aquatic product producer, processor and distributor of tilapia and other aquatic products, reaped record sales in 2007.

Norbert Sporns, company chairman and CEO said that the expansion of HQ Maritime's processing plant and feed mill has boosted productivity.

Major certification of its tilapia enterprise from the ACC in December 2007 also expanded the company's reach for potential customers.

Sporns said the company would continue to develop new markets for its branded aquaculture products, targeting major retail and food service chains throughout the world.

He added that the marine-bio products are gaining more popularity in China and other parts of Asia.

HQS' sales in the fourth quarter of 2007 reached US$17.7 million, an increase of 46 percent on-year from US$12.1 million in the fourth quarter of 2006.

The sales increase was mostly attributed to increased sales of branded tilapia products to retail and food service chains.
