Russia's ROSSELKHOZNADZOR recommends meat ban from Brazil
Sergei Dankvert, chief of Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (ROSSELKHOZNADZOR), has said that his agency is reviewing options to introduce restrictions on beef supplies from Brazil.
ROSSELKHOZNADZOR will impose the ban, citing poor meat quality that does not meet veterinary requirements and the unsatisfactory work of Brazilian inspectors. The Russian service has barred Brazilian meat imports before but the meat control situation has remained unchanged. The ban on Brazilian meat imports will inflate Russian beef prices because Brazil dominates beef supplies to Russia, experts say.
